Halloween Haunts & Happenings Trick-Or-Treat Event

October 27th from 6-9pm

Trick-or-treating will take place throughout downtown Jonesborough. We will also have several game stations setup, as well as laser tag with Paradise Acres. The Hocus Pocus’ Sanderson Sisters will be at the Christopher Taylor Cabin provided by JRT Experiences.

Our newest addition will be Ravens Alley, A haunted experience that will be provided by the Crystal Rave, Sliver Raven and Lowe of Jonesborough. Recommend for ages 12 and up.

Show up in your best costume for the spooky costume contest starting at 7:30 p.m. in front of the Courthouse sponsored by Food City of Jonesborough.  The contest will have several age groups and a group category. There is no registration required.

Parking will be available at the Jonesborough Elementary School with a shuttle to the Jonesborough Visitors Center. Parking is $5 per car with free shuttle rides available back and forth. All proceeds benefit the Davy Crockett Band Boosters.

Jack-O-Lantern Drive-Thru

October 26-31 from 6-9pm

A part of the Halloween fun, we will have the Jack-o-lantern Drive Thru where decorated pumpkins will be lit and on display along Main Street from  October 26 through  October 31. Pumpkins can be picked up and dropped off at the Jonesborough Visitors Center, located at 117 Boone Street. Pick up will be Tuesday, October 24 between 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and and October 25 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. drop off will be Wednesday, October 25 between 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday, October 26 between 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be three categories participants can enter in for prizes: kids, family and adults. Participants must write their name, age and phone number written on the bottom of the pumpkin.

Halloween Haunts and Happenings Art Exhibition Opening Reception

October 20 5-7 pm

Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts at the McKinney Center has curated its first Halloween Haunts and Happenings, an exhibition highlighting artwork by twenty-five regional artists that is meant to give you the creeps! Brought together by the McKinney Center staff, this group of artists from across the Tri-cities span a range of practices, including wood work, sculpture, painting, photography, digital media, and more. Their interpretive expressions reflect the mood of the season.

Halloween Haunts and Happenings Exhibition, will be on view at the McKinney Center from Friday, October 13th, 2023, through November 3, 2023.

The free to attend reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday, October 20, 5-7pm. The artists will be on hand at the exhibit opening to answer questions from guests. The reception will include light refreshments. The McKinney Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am -5pm.

Brews & Boos

Get ready for ghost stories, seasonal craft beer, and spooky tunes! The 8th Annual Brews and Boos will be in downtown Jonesborough on Saturday, October 28 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Brews & Boos is set in Jimmy Neil Smith Park (Storytelling Park) with a series of ghost stories featuring world-renowned storyteller Lynn Ford and special guests!

Fourth Annual Lick-or-Treat Paw Parade

October 28 4pm

Tennessee Tails Pet Boutique is excited to host the Fourth Annual Lick-or-Treat Paw Parade in downtown Jonesborough on Saturday, October 28 at 4 p.m.

This fourth annual event will kick off at Tennessee Tails Pet Boutique in downtown Jonesborough, located at 111 East Main Street, where attendees will line up storefront and parade up and down the street showing off their best Halloween costumes in front of local businesses. Participants are encouraged to dress in their scariest, funniest and cutest costumes. Following the parade, a costume contest will be held awarding the top 3 costumes. Prizes for winning costumes will include toys, treats and more from Tennessee Tails Pet Boutique. All pups will receive a complimentary treat bag after the parade.

Tickets for the event are $10 per dog and can be purchased in advance at TennesseeTails.com or on the day of the event in store. There is no charge for human companions, and duo costumes are encouraged. Proceeds will be donated to the Washington County Humane Society. Event will happen rain or shine.

True and Chilling Tales

October 24, 25, 26, 30, 31 and November 1 7pm

The Heritage Alliance hosts the True and Chilling Tales Tour at 7 p.m. on October 24, 25, 26, 30, 31 and November 1. The guide will lead participants through Main Street with the “book of poor souls.”

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at jonesborough.com/tickets. The tour will last an hour. Groups are limited to 16 people.

The tours will depart from the Chester Inn State Historic Site and Museum, located at 116 West Main Street. The tours will happen rain or shine. This tour is rated PG-13 for content and is not recommended for children under 13 years of age. Please note, these stories are true and some of them are considered gory or unpleasant.

A Spot On The Hill

October 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st

Now celebrating its ninth season, this edition features new characters. New stories include Miss Ethel Brown who was a teacher at Booker T. Washington School and Jonesborough Elementary School, brick and stonemason John Rhea, Dr. William R. Sevier who was instrumental during the cholera epidemic of 1873 and Samuel Irvin who has the oldest marker in the cemetery.

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to sit on. Seats are not provided at the cemetery.

Performances for A Spot on the Hill will take place at 6:30 p.m. on October 13, 14, 20 and 21. There will be a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Saturday, October 14 in the Jonesborough Visitors Center, located at 117 Boone Street, and a 2 p.m. matinee in the cemetery on October 21. At the outdoor matinee, there will be ASL interpretation provided by BridgeEAST. The indoor performance on October 14 is ADA accessible.

Tickets are limited. Tickets are $10 and proceeds benefit the Heritage Alliance’s educational programs and initiatives, including ongoing programming in Jonesborough’s historic cemeteries.

Audience members should arrive 15 minutes prior to show time. Parking is available at the First Baptist Church and downtown. It is a walk up East Main Street to the cemetery from the First Baptist Church lot. A golf cart courtesy shuttle will be available for guests who need it. This program is not suggested for children less than 10 years of age. In case of inclement weather, the show will be canceled and audience members will be notified in advance.
